Recovery time for lip filler injections will vary, but most patients see full recovery and the outcome of their injections after a week or two. Here are a few tips to make the recovery process go smoothly and help you achieve optimal results.

• Don’t apply makeup to your lips for at least 24 hours after injections. Using cosmetic products, such as lipstick and lip balm, can lead to infection if worn during this initial time.
• If you experience uncomfortable itching, swelling, or bruising, apply ice to the treated area to help reduce these effects. 
• Avoid massaging or touching your lips for 24 to 48 hours. Limiting what comes into contact with your lips limits exposure to the germs and bacteria that could cause infection while the injection sites heal.
• Don’t smoke or consume alcohol for several days following your injections. These can slow the healing process and contribute to adverse effects.
• Staying hydrated will aid in the overall effect of the hyaluronic acid in the lip filler. Drink plenty of water, especially in the days immediately following the injections. Don’t use straws since the action can cause injection site irritation and potentially displace the filler.
• Limit exercise to light activities only for the first day or two. Strenuous activity raises blood pressure and increases swelling and bruising.
• Sleep with your head elevated to help limit bruising and swelling. Avoid sleeping with your face pressed too firmly against your pillow since this can lead to filler displacement. After one week, you can return to your preferred sleeping position.
• Don’t take medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen since they are blood thinning and can lead to excess bruising and swelling. While most patients won’t require pain medication, ask your injector or healthcare professional what pain medicines you can take if the injections cause discomfort.
• Avoid heat for two days. Blood vessels expand in hot conditions, which can lead to more swelling. Steer clear of hot showers and saunas during this time.
• If possible, don’t travel in an airplane until your lip filler has had sufficient time to settle. Ground yourself to other modes of transport for at least a week after injections.
• Salt increases swelling, so stick to healthy, low-sodium foods while your lips heal. A few days of eating fruits and vegetables should also give your injection sites plenty of time to become less prone to irritants like salty food. 
• Certain creams can ease any irritation or itching while your lips heal. If you experience itching or discomfort, try vitamin K, aloe vera, or a product containing one or both to ease your symptoms.
